Frequently Asked Questions
What is CTS Lite Device Test?
CTS Lite Device test is a single seat, air-gapped, annual license for CTS Lite Device level power efficiency measurement test software for the test of individual storage drives. The CTS Lite Device test is required by the SNIA Emerald Device specification.
What is Power Efficiency Measurement?
Power efficiency measurement measures the consumption of power during the running of a specific workload. Power efficiency is expressed in IOPS/W, MiB/s/W and GB/W while running industry standard SNIA Green Storage workloads.
What is the SNIA Emerald Device specification?
SNIA Emerald Device 1.0 is a SNIA in-development technical position that focusses on the power efficiency measurement of individual storage devices. The SNIA Emerald Device specification sets forth the required workloads, test methodologies, tests, reporting and software/hardware tools to comply with industry regulations and standards for green storage.
What is the SNIA Emerald System specification?
SNIA Emerald System 5.0 is a SNIA in-development technical position that focusses on the power efficiency measurement of system level storage. SNIA Emerald System 5.0 updates the published SNIA Emerald System 4.0 with new SpecStorage2024 system level workloads and tests. SNIA Emerald System 5.0 also includes the test of block level LUN storage that requires the use of CTS Lite test software.
Why do I need to use CTS Lite Device test to measure power efficiency?
CTS Lite Device test is the required test software, workload and reporting software for the in-development SNIA Emerald System 5.0 and SNIA Emerald Device 1.0 specifications.
How do I get a copy of CTS Lite Device Test?
CTS Lite Device test software can be purchased and downloaded at CTSLite.com.
How do I use CTS Lite Device test?
CTS Lite Device test is a single test executable that runs on Windows or Linus systems. The CTS Lite Device test is a command line interface that inputs test operator selection of drive specific test parameters and then runs the automated tests on selected storage. CTS Lite requires the use of the Quarch Power Analysis Monitor (PAM). Quarch PAM power data is automatically aggregated with the CTS Lite performance data. Upon completion of the test, CTS Lite automatically generates test results in editable excel format and read-only html files that include dynamic playback and analytics.
How is Quarch power data aggregated with CTS Lite Device test software?
CTS Lite Device automatically aggregates csv power data provided by a Quarch Power Analysis Module (PAM). Power and performance data is presented in automatically generated test results file.
What does the test report look like?
CTS Lite automatically generates test report results in excel and html file formats. The read-only html results file serves as an audit trail with pre-built report plots and source data. The html file also provides a dynamic playback file with data analytics. The excel report allows access to source data and raw reports. The SNIA Emerald Device spec requires a report table that is not produced in the excel or html CTS Device test file. However the SNIA required report table is automatically generated in the CTS Lite Device Dashboard and Database.
What and where do I post results data?
Posting of results is to be determined by SNIA Green TWG and the relevant regulatory agency or entity.
